The Presidential Caboose The City of Presidents proudly displays an authentic Chicago and North Western caboose on the site where the old depot once stood on their Main Street. It will be used to exhibit historic items and photos of the town. The north side of the caboose reflects the markings that would have appeared on a caboose like the ones that passed through the town for years before the tracks were removed in the 1970's. The south side design was created to compliment the community theme "City of Presidents" where shields depicting silhouettes of all the US Presidents line the Main Street. The official seal for the city imitates the U.S. presidential seal and is located next to the title "Presidential Caboose". The lower stripe is comprised of fifty stars for the 50 states. The upper white and blue stripe lists all the names of the US presidents to date. The hand painted portrait of US Grant was chosen because Grant was the president when Cuba City incorporated in 1875. Grant actually rode the narrow gauge railroad through Cuba City on November 22nd, 1878. A Wisconsin silhouette shows the town location and 1875 is as the caboose number below the center window. Cuba City, Wisconsin showcases the caboose with the hope that it could be a spot to pose for photos. A wedding party stopped for a picture in front of The Presidential Caboose before the graphics were even completed! |
